Morning Star Dancers

The Native American student association sponsors activities in April that show the awesome aspects of Native American culture. These dancers were in the Union today and I felt like taking pictures of them was a necessity.

This little guy was with the dancers and I think last year he danced with regalia on. Not this time. Just a participant.

Farmer's Market

On a very overcast and chilly Wednesday afternoon the vendors at the Cico Park farmer's market offered a great selection of produce, flowers, and fresh bread. I haven't been shooting very much lately because 1. I'm busy. 2. I'm discouraged with the paper.
But I like people. I like hearing people's stories and seeing people smile and feel good. Nancy English, of Ma's Kitchen, talked to me for 30 minutes about her family baking business, and how she woke up at 1 a.m. this morning to start baking, and how she learned to cook from her mother and when times were hard she turned to baking to help keep her family afloat. It's conversations like these that make me realize why I like doing this. I'm shooting them to tell their story. I'm shooting because the feeling I get from shooting and talking to people is like no other rush I've experienced. Life is good.

Guerrero Olguin shows off a mushroom he sells only when it's been raining. Why? They only grow with lots of rain.
Green green green. Beautiful.
I think the reason I liked talking to Nancy so much was that she reminded me of my sassy bread baking grandma.

California

I went to the JEA/NSPA convention in Anaheim, California. It was a fun trip and a nice break from classes.

Palms.
Director of NSPA.
Steve Lopez, author of the Soloist, was the first Keynote speaker.
Really beautiful bird looking flowers that were all over Anaheim.
Happiest place in Anaheim.

Baseblah

I shot the baseball game against OU Saturday afternoon. We lost 14-3. I didn't really enjoy shooting the game too much, I just don't think sports shooting is for me! But with my first wedding scheduled for the end of August I think I'm on track for the photography that I actually want to do!
I actually heard the ball hit Martini and it made my stomach turn a little. I can't imagine the bruises these guys must have.

An Intense Workout

The AMPED workout at the rec is an intense, high-calorie burning, high heart rate class. Some of their exercises include cement blocks, logs, and in this picture, a 2-inch-thick rope that weighs about 70lbs. being tossed in different patterns.
